EU farm to fork strategy

The recently announced Farm to Fork strategy of the EU is an encouraging signal. It comes early enough before the EU decides on the new Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) that offers the chance to redirect agriculture with its support schemes towards more organic and sustainable farming.

"It is only logical that the European Union is betting on at least 25% organic by 2030. Because organic delivers sustainability across the entire value chain. Investing in organic means investing in a healthy Europe, where the focus is on people, their health and their work on the farms, in mills, dairies, butchers or in the shops” as the German organic umbrella organisation points out in a press release.

The Farm to Fork strategy is a strong signal to EU member states as well as to all other nations that it is high time to redirect policies for which organic food and farming can serve as a blueprint.
